Meeke back in Rally action
Axed WRC star Kris Meeke will return to the international rally arena at next month's Rallylegend (11 - 14 october) event in San Marino.
The Northern Ireland driver has been out of action since Citroën Racing dropped him from its WRC line-up in May following a massive accident at Vodafone Rally de Portugal.
Meeke was today (Thursday) confirmed for the popular asphalt encounter which spotlights classic WRC cars from the past. He will be partnered by regular safety crew member Derek Brannigan.
It will be decided shortly whether they will take part in the competitive event or appear in the Legend Stars show in a Subaru formerly driven by Colin McRae. The Scot won the 1995 world championship and was a mentor to Meeke in the early days of his career.
Meeke, who drove a Citroën Xsara at last year's Rallylegend, will join former team-mate Craig Breen, ex-WRC runner-up Mikko Hirvonen and double world champion Miki Biasion at the three-day fixture.
Breen will drive a Citroën C4 WRC alongside regular co-driver Scott Martin, while Hirvonen will share a Ford Focus WRC with Jarmo Lehtinen.
Meeke's 2018 WRC season was terminated after only six rounds by Citroën, a decision that team principal Pierre Budar said was based largely on safety issues after ‘an excessively high number of crashes'.
