Maserati scores a huge success at the Middle East event
The interest generated in the Kubang concept car, the GranCabrio Fendi and GranTurismo MC Trofeo, at the Dubai International Motor Show, confirmed that the Middle East is one of Maserati's most important markets and one populated with thousands of enthusiasts for the Modenese granturismos.
This year's was a record event for the Middle East show, held from 10-14 November 2011, with over 150 constructors attending and more than 500 models on display. These figures testify to how much the event has grown, as did the tens of thousands of visitors from all over southern Asia and north Africa. One of the highlights was the press conference held by Umberto Cini, Managing Director of Maserati Middle East and Africa. Cini oversaw the presentation of the new Kubang concept car and the Trofeo Middle East JBF RAK, a championship reserved to gentleman drivers from the Middle East. Visitors also expressed a lot of interest in the GranCabrio Fendi with its gold-flecked Grigio Fiamma Fendi bodywork.
The new Trofeo Middle East JBF RAK, like the European edition which ended last month, is the ideal series for drivers who want to race the GranTurismo MC Trofeo on the track but who don't have the time or technical know-how to manage a race car to the standards required by modern-day competition. All entrants have to do is turn up at the circuit; Maserati will look after the rest, down to the smallest details. Maserati will also provide all the assistance necessary to take part in test sessions and the races themselves.
Now that the pre-season tests, held at Yas Marina on 19-20 November, have been run, the championship will get underway on 3 December. The setting for round one will be the Bahrain International circuit, with the final event staged at Yas Marina on 23 March 2012. There are five rounds on the calendar: as well as Bahrain and Yas Marina, the drivers will race at prestigious circuits in Losail, in Qatar, and in Dubai.
