Magnussen relishing F1 job security with Haas
Kevin Magnussen says he is keen to capitalise on the benefits that come with having finalised his 2017 F1 plans heading into the off-season after completing his move from Renault to Haas.
Controversially dropped by McLaren ahead of the 2015 season, Magnussen secured a last minute return to F1 in 2016 with Renault in place of Pastor Maldonado but struggled to make an impression in the uncompetitive Renault RS16.
Nevertheless, despite cracking the top ten in just two occasions in 2016, Magnussen remained a driver in demand during the closing stages of the year, with deals on the table from both Renault and Haas
Opting to accept the latter, Magnussen is pleased to be heading into the winter break without the pressure of finalising plans.
"It is the first time I will go into next season knowing I am in F1 straight away. I haven't had a proper off-season preparing for next season and this is my first time properly continuing so it feels good. I am really excited about my next adventure. We will try to finish off this season on a good note and a good result hopefully."
Looking back on his campaign with Renault, though Magnussen says he was unhappy with the lower-than-expected results he was still sad to be leaving the team.
"From a results view it has been tough to score points on three occasions. It has been a little bit frustrating and tough but it has also been a very fun season with Renault, there are a lot of really cool guys and girls here. It has been fun working with them and traveling around with them."
Magnussen joins Romain Grosjean in the Haas-Ferrari team next year, replacing Esteban Gutierrez.
