Magnussen Jr. and Sr. to team up at Le Mans one day?

Haas Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen would like to race alongside his father, Jan, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans one day.

Jan Magnussen raced in F1 between 1995 and 1997, scoring just a single point before making the switch into sportscars where he has since enjoyed considerable success, winning his class at Le Mans on four occasions for Corvette.

Magnussen Sr. still races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, giving son Kevin some food for thought regarding a possible double act in the future.

Amid talk of Fernando Alonso's Indianapolis 500 deal last week, Magnussen was asked if he'd consider entering a race besides F1, with the Dane putting Le Mans on his wish list.

"I think for me, I want to be in Formula 1 and focus on that, but my dad is still racing and he's in a competitive team in his series and also racing at Le Mans," Magnussen explained.

"I think it would be a shame not to try and do a race together, me growing up with him racing all the time. It would be a really special experience to do a race with him.

"I imagine winning a race like Le Mans with him would be fantastic, so it's weighing up those two things. Formula 1 is my main priority and what I want to focus on, but there is the desire to do something like that with my dad as well, so we'll see what happens."

Magnussen previously chased a Corvette seat for Le Mans alongside his dad in 2015 when he was benched for a year by McLaren, only for the American marque to have already completed its line-up.

Magnussen flirted with endurance racing before his return to F1 in 2016, testing Porsche's 919 Hybrid LMP1 car.
