Magic WTCR is best in 10 years, says Vernay

Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team's Jean-Karl Vernay reckons the upcoming WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will be the "best in 10 years".

The winner of the TCR International Series in 2017, Vernay is preparing for a "big challenge" in his Audi RS 3 LMS, starting with the season-opening WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco next month.

"The starting grid will be magic, it's the best championship in the last 10 years when you see the drivers," said the 30-year-old Frenchman. "It's at a really high level and very impressive with all the great drivers and teams. It's really interesting, a big challenge for us and everybody.

"We will have to work hard and make sure we are ready for the first race on this new and exciting calendar, going back to Argentina, Japan and some great tracks in Europe.

"But I'm very happy with everything and have some good guys along with me on the team with Gordon [Shedden]. We have to work well together and then get ready to fight against the other guys, I can't wait for the first race in Marrakech."
