Leuchter sets WTCR podium target… in Germany

Benjamin Leuchter is giving himself until the fifth event of the season to be on the podium in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.

The series newcomer admits he has plenty to learn as he adapts to life in WTCR / OSCARO. As a result, he is prepared to wait until WTCR Race of Germany to challenge for a top-three finish in his SLR Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

But with his knowledge of the Nürburgring Nordschleife better than the bulk of his rivals, Leuchter has high hopes of being among the podium places.

“There are a lot of new things to take in, but I am trying to learn quickly,” said Leuchter. “The opening round will be very important. After that, I want to improve from race to race and to challenge for a spot on the podium on the Nordschleife. It is clear to me that, as a rookie, I will not immediately be challenging for victories, otherwise the other drivers must have been doing something wrong in recent years.”
