Latvia RX entries revealed

The official entry list for first ever FIA World Rallycross Championship event to be held at the Bikernieki circuit near Riga in Latvia (1-2 October) has been released by the FIA, where a total of 49 Supercars are entered in the World RX and Euro RX categories.

In the tenth round of the World Rallycross Championship, 24 drivers are set to take part, with permanent and regular teams and drivers expected to be joined by Italian star Gigi Galli. If testing next week in Barcelona goes to plan for the former WRC podium finisher, then Galli will return to World RX with the Kia Rio Supercar that he debuted at his home round of the Championship last season.

Latvia's Reinis Nitiss has confirmed that he will remain with the Olsbergs MSE team for event. Nitiss will return to the squad this weekend in Barcelona, following his departure from the Muennich Motorsport team after the French round at Loheac earlier this month. JRM Racing will field a pair of Mini RX Supercars for Guy Wilks and Guerlain Chicherit, who will also both race in Barcelona this weekend, while Super1600 ace Janno Ligur will make his first World RX Supercar appearance in a Reinsalu Sport Ford Fiesta. Lithuania's Nerijus Naujokaitis also plans to be on the grid. The newcomer was forced to miss his planned maiden appearance at Loheac due to technical problems with his new Skoda Fabia, but is expected to compete this weekend in Barcelona.

The final round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar takes place in Riga, where ahead of the penultimate round in Barcelona this weekend, Sweden's Kevin Hansen remains unbeaten in the category. Of the Euro RX field, Hansen is one of the only drivers to have tested at the new circuit earlier this summer, along with Mats Ohman, Derek Tohill and Martin Kaczmarski.

The event will include the penultimate round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for TouringCar, currently led by Norway's Ben-Philip Gundersen, ahead of Magda Andersson and Fredrik Magnussen. 12 cars will take part in the final round of the RX Lites Cup, which ahead of the penultimate round this weekend in Barcelona looks set to go down to the wire between Norway's Thomas Bryntesson and France's Cyril Raymond. Joining the regular RX Lites competitors in Riga will be home driver Martins Lapins, Russia's Vasily Gryazin and America's Conner Martell, who raced in the Intercontinental RX Lites Cup at Trois-Rivieres in Canada in August.
