Lando Norris to drive for McLaren in Hungary F1 test

McLaren junior Lando Norris will drive the team's 2017 car in Formula 1's post-Hungarian Grand Prix test next week.

The 2016 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner has been the part of the Woking team's set-up since the beginning of the year and has already tested a 2011-spec McLaren MP4-26 at Algarve.

Now the 17-year-old Briton will make his debut behind the wheel of McLaren's MCL32 challenger, taking over from team regular Stoffel Vandoorne on the second day of the August 1-2 test.

The outing will be classed as Norris's designated test of a Formula 1 car as part of his reward package for winning the MABA prize.

McLaren fielded Oliver Turvey alongside Vandoorne in the preceding in-season F1 test in Bahrain.

Norris currently competes in the European Formula 3 championship with Carlin. A rookie in the category, he has three wins to his name and currently sits third in the drivers' standings.

In his two prior years in junior single-seaters, the former karting world champion has won titles in the British MSA Formula series, the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand and Formula Renault 2.0 categories Eurocup and NEC.

Norris is not the only McLaren-Honda affiliated driver taking part in the Hungary F1 test, with Honda-backed Japanese racer Nobuharu Matsushita in action for Sauber.
