Kevin Magnussen rules out Daytona 24 entry for 2018
Kevin Magnussen dismisses speculation he could be set to join F1 peers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll in the Rolex 24 field at Daytona in January.
Kevin Magnussen has ruled out appearing in the Rolex 24 sports car race at Daytona International Speedway in January following speculation of a possible entry with Action Express Racing.
Haas driver Magnussen was linked with a drive in the 24-hour classic that would see him join Formula 1 peers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll on the grid, racing in the Prototype class.
Despite expressing a desire to enter sports car races such as Le Mans in the past and even testing Porsche's LMP1 car back in 2015, Magnussen confirmed to Danish newspaper BT he would not be entering the 2018 Rolex 24.
"There have been talks with a team, but for a variety of reasons, there was not a deal," Magnussen said.
"It would be good another time."
Magnussen has previously said he would like to enter a sports car race in the future with his father, Jan, who is a factory Corvette driver in the GTLM class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Magnussen Sr. will race at Le Mans next year with Corvette, but his son ruled out an entry to the race despite it not clashing with a grand prix in June.
