Is this the WTCR’s most experienced rookie?
Andy Priaulx will be a rookie when the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO fires into life in Morocco this week.
Priaulx won the FIA World Touring Car Championship three seasons running between 2005-2007, but the WTCR is all-new to the Guernsey racer.
“I’m delighted to be back, but I consider myself a newcomer, albeit an experienced one,” said the Cyan Performance Lynk & Co racer. “There is no doubt that this season will be really tough, but I am quietly optimistic and can’t wait to get going in Morocco.”
Priaulx, 44, has experience of racing – and winning – in Marrakech, albeit when the Circuit Moulay El Hassan ran in its original, longer format.
“Back in 2010 I raced on the longer street circuit in the WTCC and won there,” he said. “While this is a totally different track, I will certainly feel at home in a place where I stood on the top step of the podium.”
