Iconic Martini cars star at Rallylegend
The 50-year relationship between Martini and motorsport will be celebrated at the Rallylegend event (11-14 october).
The San Marino-based rally will celebrate half a century of the red, blue and sky-blue colours gracing iconic machines tackling the WRC by reuniting the different generations and the drivers that competed in them.
Ranging from the all-conquering Lancias - the 037, Delta S4 and the Delta Integrale - to Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz in M-Sport Ford Focus WRCs, RallyLegend organisers are aiming to assemble as many of the legendary cars as possible.
As well as bringing the cars together, the event will pay tribute to the dominant years of Martini in the WRC - especially in the Group A era - with the brand's cars claiming the constructors' title with Lancia every year between 1987 and 1992 as well as four drivers' titles during the same period with Juha Kankkunen and Miki Biasion.
In addition to celebrating Martini, the main event of RallyLegend will be the three days of competitive stages which regularly hosts modern stars of the WRC competing against their idols in a variety of current and historic machinery.
The stages are regularly tackled by more than 150 crews with entries in three classes: The Myth category, for cars built before 1998, WRC cars between 1999 and 2003, and then more contemporary WRC cars from 2004 to 2010.
Last year's event paid tribute to McRae, with a number of his title-winning cars being paraded by WRC drivers including Kris Meeke. The Scot's brother, Alister, drove his Subaru Legacy RS as used in the 1992 Swedish Rally.
