Honda Jazz captures Australian Rally Championship
Eli Evans and co-driver Glen Weston have clinched the Australian Rally Championship for a second year running, winning last weekend's Rally Australia to make it 11 wins from 11 starts in their Honda Jazz.
By extending their record winning streak, in the East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship, the pair have secured back-to-back titles with one round still remaining on the 2013 calendar.
Evans, though, didn't have everything his own way in what was a long and arduous event run as an integral part of Round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship - the best of the best in both fields battling through hundreds of miles of dusty forest stages to the north of Melbourne.
"It was a tough weekend," admitted a delighted Evans."The roads are really abrasive and we had some long stages where tyre choice became an issue. The team has put in such a great effort, and the Honda Jazz never let me down. I can't thank Honda enough for all their support over the last four years, and this is a great way to reward them with our 11th straight win and two Championships in a row."
The final round of the ECB ARC, Rally Victoria takes place in Warragul on 15-16 November. Evans will be in front of his home crowd in what will be Honda's final event. "Hopefully we finish it off with another win and make it 12 from 12 in the Honda Jazz," said Evans.
