Homola thanks fans after WTCR home struggles
Mato Homola started his home rounds of the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO on a high after winning for the first time in Vila Real the previous month.
But he set off on the 20-kilometre journey to his home on Sunday evening frustrated after failing to score all weekend in his DG Sport Compétition PEUGEOT 308TCR.
He placed P14, P17 and P12 in the three races at WTCR Race of Slovakia. In contrast, team-mate Aurélien Comte took second place in the weekend's closing race having finished fourth in the first counter.
"We found a set-up and the pace [in Vila Real], but I came here and suddenly we were struggling from the beginning," said Homola. "We tried to change a lot but it was still the same. When you compare with Aurélien who was going really faster than me in the same car, it's really frustrating. We have the summer break now and I will try to focus for the next races which will be new for many of us, and I will try to be faster again."
Of the huge home following he enjoyed at the Slovakia Ring, Homola said: "With so many fans, I am sorry to have a weekend like this from my side, but I did my best. It was really nice for them to say ‘it's okay we support you in this situation'. It's really nice that so many people came and next year I hope it will be even bigger. Thank you to everyone from Slovakia."
