Hamilton explains plan “to give it everything” for F1 finale in Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton says after his charge through the Formula 1 field in Brazil he's targeting an emphatic finish to the Formula 1 season for Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton says after his charge through the Formula 1 field from his pit lane start in Brazil he's targeting an emphatic finish to the 2017 season for Mercedes.

The newly-crowned four-time F1 world champion's initial celebrations in Brazil were slightly tempered by his qualifying crash which forced an engine change and a pit lane start.

But with a new specification and fresh Mercedes engine Hamilton ripped through the order to finish the Brazilian Grand Prix in fourth place bearing down on Kimi Raikkonen for an unlikely podium.

While Hamilton is focusing on avoiding any similar qualifying nightmares he is hoping to extract the strengths of his Mercedes for a final flourish before the winter.

"I'll definitely work to focus on this last race, take the pace that I had [in Brazil] and make sure I start where I need to start," Hamilton said in Brazil. "I'm going to give it everything in Abu Dhabi, which is cool and I'm excited for that.

"It's obviously an unusual position to be in but I really, really loved racing in Brazil. I've loved driving this year's car with the tyres, it makes me kind of think why did we not have these big tyres before.

"More mechanical grip ultimately means we can do more on the track and more racing and that's what we need."

Hamilton was greeted by a guard of honour returning to the Mercedes factories in Brixworth and Brackley as part of his preparations for the season finale and admits the reception made it "a very emotional" moment in his season.

"I was not expecting this, thanks everyone for the warm welcome," he said. "Today is something that I will never forget, turning up at the front gate of the factory and seeing everyone out on the street to welcome me - I'm blown away.

"This has been an incredible year, it's been an incredible journey together. There's a huge amount of respect and appreciation I have for everyone. I've been in the sport for a long time now, but to see the work ethic in Brixworth and Brackley really inspires me."
