Guerrieri miracle save WTCC media’s 2017 moment

Esteban Guerrieri's sensational save at FIA WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan following contact with Thed Björk was voted by members of the World Touring Car Championship media as their moment of 2017.

The dramatic clash occurred at Twin Ring Motegi in late October when the ace pairing were battling for third place in the Opening Race in wet conditions.

Viewers watching live coverage on Eurosport and other television stations around the world were treated to trackside camera footage as well as a dramatic onboard sequence from Guerrieri's sideways Honda Civic WTCC as the Argentine battled to regain control in the rain. The moment was the WTCC's FIA Action of the Year nomination and can be viewed by clicking here.

Other moments to receive votes included Mehdi Bennani and Tom Chilton's thrilling battle for victory at WTCC Race of Qatar and Rob Huff's multiple overtakes at WTCC Race of Portugal when the 2012 WTCC champion scythed through from last to fifth as the ‘joker' lap was used for the first time in an FIA world championship motor race.

Members of the WTCC media were also asked to choose their race of the season. After all votes were counted, the Opening Race at WTCC OSCARO Race of Italy, the Main Race at JVCKENWOOD Race of Macau and the Main Race at WTCC Race of Portugal finished joint top.
