Guerrieri fastest on opening day of WTCR Official Test
Esteban Guerrieri is the fastest driver in the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO after going quickest on day one of official testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Guerrieri set a 1m54.531s during the afternoon session at the Spanish Grand Prix venue in his ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic Type R TCR.
“It was quite useful today,” said the Argentine ace. “We tested some simulations on qualifying, which was actually quite useful because we encountered some issues in the front-right suspension, so we had to speed up the process as much as we could.
“I went out with only one run in ‘Q1’, let’s say, and all this was simulating a hot moment in qualifying. In the end this is what we were looking for, some things to improve and now we are going to sit down to see how we can improve the processes.
“Then it was just driving around with the car, some feelings we got set-up wise but not much because we already had a nice and good base. We are fine.”
Jean-Karl Vernay was second in the combined results, the Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport driver clocking a 1m55.231s best in an RS 3 LMS.
Team Mulsanne’s Kevin Ceccon was third in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR with Gordon Shedden fourth, Niels Langeveld fifth and Attila Tassi sixth.
Rob Huff was seventh for SLR VW Motorsport, the Briton setting a time of 1m56.290s in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR. Ma Qing Hua was eighth, Tom Coronel ninth and the quickest CUPRA TCR driver, while Mehdi Bennani finished up P10.
Testing continues tomorrow (Friday) with WTCR Race of Morocco, Bennani’s home event, opening the 2019 season from 5-7 April.
