GT1 - Slovakiaring - Basseng: ‘We need to improve our Qualifying’
After six weeks of the summer break, the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Mercedes team heads to Slovakia Ring aiming to protect their lead of the teams' standings in the sixth round of the championship.
On the 5.922-km long track, the racing stable from Saxony with German duo Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 No.38 finished third in the Championship Race at the first visit of the series to Slovakia in June.
Prior to the summer recess, at the fifth round at the Algarve circuit near Portimao, ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport recorded a one-two in the Championship Race with the No.37 car of Nicky Pastorelli (NLD) and Thomas Jäger (DEU) leading home their German colleagues in the No.38.
The success enabled the team to cement their position at the top of the teams' standings while Basseng and Winkelhock are second in the drivers' table and Pastorelli and Jäger fourth.
"Our goal for the second half of the season is to extend the lead of the team rankings and of course to upgrade positions at the drivers rankings," team principal and racing stable owner René Münnich said.
"Surely it won't be easy in Slovakia, because the track doesn't suit our Mercedes race cars too much." Team manager Basseng added: "We have to improve our performance in Qualifying, this way we can be on good positions in the races from the beginning. Finally, we want to add to the success we had before the summer break at the Algarve - to finish with podium placings."
