Grosjean has faith in Haas updates after Singapore disaster

Romain Grosjean says he still holds belief in the upgrade package Haas introduced in Singapore despite suffering two crashes over the race weekend and failing to reach the starting grid due to technical problems.

The French driver missed his first F1 race since his infamous one race ban for the 2012 Italian GP after causing a huge shunt at Spa du to a mechanical fault in Singapore, but it only ended a miserable round after missing all of FP1 with an issue, crashing in FP2 and suffering another off during Q2 of qualifying.

Haas opted to introduce a new front wing, new brake ducts and floor alterations on the VF-16 at the Marina Bay Circuit and despite Grosjean calling the car 'the worst he's driven' over the team radio in FP3 he doesn't believe they the root cause of the problems.

"I don't think so. I think the updates work... are we using them properly? I don't know," Grosjean said. "We are still missing some channel to check everything in terms of aero data but I tried the new front wing versus the old, we kept the old one as a known quantity, but the new one didn't feel too bad.

"It is weird, we changed the rear wing, we changed the drums, the floor after the crash and the behaviour is the same. A bit dodgy."

Grosjean will be looking for a positive outing in Malaysia, a race he's finished 11th at in the past two seasons, as Haas target its first points since the Austrian Grand Prix in July.
