Griebel boosted despite ERC progress over podium

Marijan Griebel is remaining positive in the FIA European Rally Championship, despite late tyre damage ending his hopes of a Rally Islas Canarias podium.

Griebel was in a battle with fellow ERC3 Junior graduate Chris Ingram when misfortune struck on the penultimate stage, dropping the German talent from third to ninth at the finish in Las Palmas.

The Baumschlager Rallye & Racing-run driver explained what had gone wrong. “In this very narrow part in the beginning of the penultimate stage I slightly touched some stone on the outside of a corner and immediately the tyre was flat. We drove between 12 and 13 kilometres with a puncture so all our chances went out. It would have been a podium.”

Reflecting on his performance at the wheel of the ŠKODA Fabia R5 he shares with co-driver Stefan Kopczyk, Griebel said: “I’m quite pleased with my pace compared to P11 two years ago. It was just bad luck today.”
