From watching to racing: Catsburg joins the 2019 WTCR grid

Nicky Catsburg will be more than aware of the high level of competition in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO when he joins the series in 2019.

Signed up as one of four Hyundai Motorsport customer racing drivers alongside Augusto Farfus, Norbert Michelisz and Gabriele Tarquini, Catsburg has revealed he watched the inaugural WTCR OSCARO season with great interest having enjoyed a successful spell in the FIA World Touring Car Championship between 2015-2017.

“I am really happy to return to touring car racing in 2019 by entering the WTCR,” said Catsburg, who has driven for BMW in GT racing this season. “I have seen most of the WTCR races and I can’t deny that I really wanted to be a part of it in 2019.

“I have worked with Gabriele and Augusto before and Norbi I know well from my WTCC times. I honestly can’t wait to work together with them next year. I have not raced a TCR car yet, but Gabriele just won the championship so I am sure he will bring me up to speed quickly.”

Catsburg will combine his WTCR programme with an FIA World Endurance Championship bid for BMW.
