Formula Renault 2.0 Alps: Bonifacio takes third win of 2013
Bruno Bonifacio (Prema Power Team) continued in his top run at Misano in the fifth round of the 2013 Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS championship. The Brazilian, who took-off from the pole, made the most out of his starting position as he led from start to finish. The race proved extremely spectacular though as Antonio Fuoco (Prema Junior) put up a massive charge to the front, challenging his team-mate throughout the whole 17-lap distance. In the end, Fuoco eventually had to settle for second as Bonifacio held onto the lead brilliantly.
The fight for third place was not less exciting by any means. In the end, Kevin Joerg (Jenzer Motorsport) prevailed on young Russian Egor Orudzhev (Tech1 Racing) whom had passed him right at the start. As they fought between each other, they also closed onto the leading duo at times, but didn't have a real chance to nose in front of their rivals.
It's been a tough day for Luca Ghiotto (Prema Power Team), who entered the weekend as the third-placed man in standings. The Italian spun out early but recovered from the back of the pack, clocking the fastest lap of the race in the process. Eventually, he finished in 11th, right behind his new team-mate Matthew Barry Solomon.
With today's second place, Fuoco retained the lead in the overall championship's standings in front of Bonifacio and Ghiotto. Race 2 of the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS weekend at Misano will go underway tomorrow, Sunday July 28th, at 13.50 PM. As always, live streaming will be provided on www.renaultsportitalia.com.
"It's been an extremely hard-fought race from start to finish - said Bonifacio - I knew that Antonio was there at any corner exit, and I gave 100% to maintain the lead. I thank the team for the outstanding job".
