Force India pushes 2017 developments to lockdown fourth place

"Development of the VJM10 continues and will bring benefits for the 2018 car too."

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya says his squad won't relent in its 2017 developments with the VJM10 in order to secure fourth place in the Formula 1 world championship - a move he sees will boost its 2018 prospects.

While a number of teams begin to switch development focus towards its 2018 cars, as the Halo cockpit protector complicates chassis designs, Mallya wants Force India to continue to focus on the current campaign in order to take its second consecutive fourth place finish and bank the healthy F1 prize money.

Mallya has teased new parts for Force India to trail at Singapore this weekend and believes any further developments on this year's car will still act as a benefit to the 2018 design.

"With seven races to go, the season is rushing by quickly and we just need to keep doing what we've been doing all year long," Mallya said. "It's about being consistent, picking up the points and taking our opportunities.

"We haven't eased off. Development of the VJM10 continues and will bring benefits for the 2018 car too. We are still bringing new parts to the track and both cars will have developments this weekend.

"It feels pretty good for our team to be sitting in fourth place in the championship as we get ready for the Singapore Grand Prix. The strong showing in Monza brought us our tenth double points finish of the season, which is a tremendous effort by the entire team."

Force India has a 58-point advantage over Williams in the battle for fourth place in the F1 world constructors' championship.
