Flashback: Last time out at Holjes RX

The Swedish round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship takes place this weekend at Holjes, for the event known as ‘The Magic Weekend' by rallycross fans.

The 2015 World RX round at the famous venue produced one of the most dramatic moments of the season, as Team Peugeot-Hansen driver Timmy Hansen dived down the inside of Mattias Ekstrom in the very last corner of the final to cross the finish line first. Hansen was later demoted to second place for the robust move by the event stewards, while Ekstrom was the victor at his home event for the second year in succession.

Andreas Bakkerud, driving for the OlsbergsMSE team, qualified on pole position and led in the opening laps with Hansen close behind in second. Ekstrom - starting on the second row next to Latvia's Reinis Nitiss - took his joker on lap one, followed by reigning champion Petter Solberg, who had finished third in his semi-final and started on the back row for the final. Hansen pushed Bakkerud hard at the front until lap four, where the Swede made his move and took the lead at the Velodrome section of the circuit, as behind Topi Heikkinen took his joker.

Bakkerud was next to take his joker at the start of the penultimate lap, as Solberg retired in the gravel trap before the circuit's huge jump with broken steering. Hansen was the last driver to take his joker at the start of lap six, Ekstrom moving into the lead. Hansen retook the position in the final corner, the places then switched by the stewards following the race. Bakkerud completed the podium, his first of the season in his sixth consecutive final appearance, with Heikkinen fourth and Nitiss fifth.
