Flashback: Last time out at Germany RX

The penultimate round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship takes place this weekend at one of the oldest circuits on the calendar, the Estering in Germany. As the 2016 championship enters its final stages, we take a look back at 2015 Estering RX event.

Following a successful test at Holjes in Sweden leading up to the German round last season, Team Peugeot-Hansen unlocked some previously undiscovered secrets from its Peugeot 208 and France's Davy Jeanney dominated. Fastest in three of the four qualifying sessions, Jeanney dominated the semi-final and final to become the first ever Frenchman to win a round of the World Rallycross Championship.

Reigning champion Petter Solberg joined Jeanney on the front row of the final and ran second on lap one, as Andreas Bakkerud tried an optimistic move around the outside of the first corner that didn't pay off. Solberg took an early joker lap, but returned to the main circuit behind Johan Kristoffersson and as the pair fought for track position, Jeanney extended his lead to enable him to take his joker on the fifth lap and maintain his advantage.

Solberg finished second, while Kristoffersson took his joker in the final corners of the last lap and just lost the final podium position to Timmy Hansen, the Swede making it two Peugeot-Hansen cars on the podium. Hansen had taken his joker on lap one, making it into the final having finished ninth in the Intermediate Classification and third in his semi-final. Kristoffersson finished the final fourth with his then team mate Tord Linnerud classified fifth. Bakkerud was disqualified from the final.

2016 World RX championship leader Mattias Ekstrom had a troubled event at the Estering last year, and didn't make the semi-finals.
