Flashback: Last time out at Argentina RX

The final round of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship takes place in Rosario this weekend, the championship's third visit to Argentina.

Twelve months ago, the title-deciding event was won by Sweden's Robin Larsson, who claimed his maiden World RX victory as Norway's Petter Solberg secured his second consecutive World RX title. Sweden's Mattias Ekstrom split the pair on the Argentina podium by finishing second.

Pole sitter Timmy Hansen and Larsson battled on the opening lap of the final, Larsson taking the lead as behind Janis Baumanis climbed to third on his debut for the World RX Team Austria squad before being passed by Ekstrom, the Audi S1 driver also passing Hansen for second and pressured Larsson for the lead. Ekstrom took his joker on lap five from second and maintained the position despite side-by-side contact with Solberg at the joker exit, the Norwegian having passed Baumanis after taking his joker lap. Larsson as able to take his joker on the final lap and cross the finish line to score his first win. Baumanis finished fourth.

Kevin Hansen made his Supercar debut in a OlsbergsMSE Ford Fiesta as prize for winning the RX Lites Cup and qualified for the final. He took his joker on the opening lap but had contact with brother Timmy on lap four, putting both out of the race. Top Qualifier at the Intermediate Classification, Andreas Bakkerud, crashed out in the semi-finals. Johan Kristoffersson made it into the knock-out races when team-mate Ole Christian Veiby withdrew and his fifth place finish in the semi-finals was enough to secure the Swede third in the championship standings.
