Ferrari F1 junior Leclerc in contention for Sauber reserve role
Ferrari Driver Academy member and GP2 racer Charles Leclerc is in contention for a Formula 1 reserve driver role at Sauber this year.
The 2016 GP3 champion took part in four free practice sessions for Haas last season, and he could yet land the same role with the American F1 team, although no decision has been made yet.
However, doubts over Pascal Wehrlein - who missed the first pre-season test last week due to injury - have heightened the need for Sauber to come up with a reserve-driver option.
Antonio Giovinazzi was loaned to the Swiss team last week, but the Italian has already been named as Ferrari's reserve.
Wehrlein returned to action for Sauber on Tuesday as the second test at Barcelona kicked off, completing 47 laps before the lunch break.
Leclerc, who also tested for Ferrari at Silverstone last year, is graduating to GP2 with Prema this season.
