F1: Stroll in frame to join Alonso in Daytona 24 field

Lance Stroll is in the frame to join Formula 1 colleague Fernando Alonso in the field for January's Rolex 24 sports car race at Daytona International Speedway, Crash.net understands.

As indicated by sources in Bahrain over the FIA World Endurance Championship season finale, Williams driver Stroll is in line to link up with Jackie Chan DC Racing for his second appearance in the Rolex 24.

Stroll made his Daytona debut as a 17-year-old with Ford Chip Ganassi Racing in 2016, finishing fifth overall as part of an all-star line-up including Alexander Wurz, Brendon Hartley and Andy Priaulx.

The Canadian is now set to follow this up by racing with recent Formula E race Felix Rosenqvist and Robin Frijns plus Mercedes factory driver Daniel Juncadella at Daytona in January.

While the deal is yet to have been finalised and confirmed by DC Racing, an announcement is expected following the conclusion of the F1 season in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

Two-time F1 world champion Alonso's participation in the Rolex 24 was confirmed earlier this month after striking a deal for his sports car debut with United Autosports, acting as preparation for a planned entry to the 24 Hours of Le Mans later in the year.

Stroll and Alonso are due to go head-to-head in the Prototype class - open to DPi and LMP2 machinery - at next year's race, which takes place on January 27-28.
