F1 Singapore GP: Magnussen applauds ‘perfect’ Renault

Kevin Magnussen says he leaves Singapore with an unusual emotion as his tenth place finish produced a winning feeling after enjoying the perfect race performance.

Bolting from 15th on the grid Magnussen was the biggest winner in the first corner collision which saw Nico Hulkenberg crash out as he moved straight into the top ten before the safety car period.

The Danish driver secured Renault's first points since the Russian Grand Prix in 10th place with what he hailed a 'perfect' performance in terms of strategy, start and the feeling from his R.S. 16.

"I'm very happy for the whole team as this must be a boost for all of us," Magnusssen said. "It's been a very demanding season as we all want to score points at every race, but that's not been possible.

"Nevertheless we all keep fighting and a result like today shows why we fight and why we never give up. The team nailed it with the strategy, with the start and with the balance of the car. To drive a race like this and not to win it; it feels strange because for me it felt perfect."

Despite returning to the points Renault remain anchored to ninth in the F1 world Constructors' championship, 21 points behind Haas, while Magnussen's second points finish of the year will boost his position aiming to retain his race seat for 2017.
