F1 Hungarian GP: The secrets to the perfect F1 pit stop

Mercedes sporting director Ron Meadows has explained the methods the reigning F1 world champions use to get the fastest pit stop times, having trumped Williams for the top time at the British Grand Prix.

Williams equalled the all-time F1 pit stop record at the European Grand Prix with a 1.92s stop for Felipe Massa - matching Red Bull's stop in the 2013 United States GP for Mark Webber - and has consistently led the pack with quickest pit stops at races in 2016.

The Grove-based squad reassessed its technology and pit stop methods over the winter after repeatedly losing time to its rivals, which has sparked a comeback from its rivals.

Mercedes topped the pit stop charts with a 2.33s change for Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone and on the team's official YouTube channel sporting director Meadows reveals how the world champions look to save vital tenths of a second in the pits.

As well as getting drivers to stop within 20cm of a pit marker and switching pit crews positions in order to keep the members sharp, Meadows says his team will have a trickier task in 2017 with the bigger and heavy tyres.
