F1 Hungarian GP: Sauber pushes on with new rear wing tests

Sauber has confirmed it will continue its development of a new rear wing on both cars after a trial run on Marcus Ericsson's C35 at Silverstone.

With the Swiss team forced to skip in-season testing immediately after the British Grand Prix due to financial problems, Sauber is aiming to play catch-up during free practice in Hungary with Felipe Nasr getting his maiden run with the new rear wing construction after Ericsson debuted the part at Silverstone.

Both drivers are expected to take part in the development work at the Hungaroring to give Sauber as much data on the wing as part of its overall aerodynamic package updates.

As teams begin to switch development efforts towards 2017 ahead of the regulations revamp both drivers are keen to extract as much performance from the Ferrari-powered C35, especially after Sauber slipped to 11th and last in the F1 world constructors' championship due to Manor's Pascal Wehrlein grabbed a points finish in Austria.

"I am looking forward to get a first taste of the Sauber C35-Ferrari with the new rear wing," Nasr said. "At the German Grand Prix we will continue our work to get a better understanding of the car, and how we can build on it for the second half of the season."

"It is good that we continue our tests with the new rear in order to proceed with our aero evaluation," Ericsson echoed. "It will be important to compare the data we collected from Silverstone to that we will gather in Budapest.

"Afterwards we will head directly to the German Grand Prix. At the Hockenheimring we will continue to work on the development of the car."

12 months ago Ericsson grabbed a point for Sauber with 10th place in Hungary, narrowly ahead of team-mate Nasr in P11.
