F1 Belgian GP: Honda upgrade clearer at Singapore – Button

Jenson Button says it is unlikely you will see the true benefit of Honda's engine upgrade at the Belgian Grand Prix but reckons races like Singapore could see McLaren more in the hunt with its main rivals.

Honda has spent a sizeable seven tokens on updating its power unit in an effort to get McLaren more on terms with rivals Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault, the most of any manufacturer during the season so far.

Choosing to upgrade over the summer break, though Button doesn't expect the changes to be so evident at power-biased circuits like Spa-Francorchamps and the following round at Monza, he feels the following round in Singapore will be a true indication of the step forward the Japanese firm has made.

"It's a good little boost, which is nice. It's not going to move us up the grid I wouldn't say, only because this race was going to be a tricky one for us and I think it will probably leave us in the same place as Hockenheim, which is still positive.

"It's probably the same for Monza and then, when we get into the circuits like Singapore, it should give us a bigger boost than it does here - or not give us a bigger boost, but we don't have the same negatives as we do here."
