F1 Belgian GP: ‘Big struggle’ for Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen admitted that the Ferrari team needed to do its homework after a tough day of practice at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Although the Finn took his turn at the top of the timesheets before finishing third overall behind the two Mercedes drivers in the morning session at Spa-Francorchamps, he faded to seventh in the afternoon as Ferrari attempted to work on longer tyre evaluations. Neither Ferrari driver posted a representative lap in qualifying trim either, but Raikkonen was clearly not happy with the state of play at the end of FP2.

"Everything was pretty okay in the afternoon, but then I was running quite badly with the supersoft [tyre] and running off the circuit," he noted, "In the long runs, it was a big struggle for whatever reason, but it was one of those days. In the end, it was not an awful lot to find and I'm sure we'll fix it tomorrow.

"I haven't had time to check what the others have been doing, but we finished not too bad. In the end, okay, the feeling wasn't correct, but we should be more or less up there. Is it enough for a win? We will see..."

The super-cool Finn also appeared less concerned than some of his rivals when asked about the effect of the unusually hot temperatures, particularly with Ferrari having opted for nine sets of the supersoft option tyre.

"I don't know if we had [a problem] or not, or if it was just for me," he shrugged, "In the morning, I had something behind, but we'll have to see. Obviously it's too early to say. We will go through everything and try to get the best out of everything for tomorrow. It's the same for everybody so we'll see what comes out of it. We are trying to do our own best and that's it."
