F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Hulkenberg quietly optimistic with Force India pace
Nico Hulkenberg feels confident of a positive result for Force India this weekend despite having Friday practice curtailed by the weather at the Red Bull Ring.
After a low-key but lap-intensive FP1, Hulkenberg was one of only a handful of drivers to improve his lap time with a 1m 08.580s which placed him third quickest in FP2 and sixth fastest overall on Friday's combined times.
Having seen his Force India team-mate Sergio Perez grab two podiums already this season the German driver is keen to get inside the mix and after three consecutive points finishes is optimistic ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
"Definitely a solid day," Hulkenberg said. "The car feels okay, but we still have some homework to do tonight to improve the balance. It was quite a strange day with the changing weather, especially this afternoon when the big storm arrived, and the knock-on effect means we don't have very much long-run data.
"We were able to do some laps on the intermediate tyres, which is important because we don't know what the weather will do tomorrow and whether the rain will return. Overall, I think we are in good shape heading into the weekend."
