F1 Abu Dhabi GP: Rosberg wants to celebrate title from top step

Nico Rosberg says he is not entertaining the prospect of playing the 'points game' ahead of the crunch title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, insisting he is still striving for the win.

The German needs a mere third place finish in the final round of the 2016 season to become F1's 33rd world champion, a result he is well positioned for from second on the grid.

Despite this relatively safe premise, Rosberg insists he is only focused on winning the race over Lewis Hamilton and is not considering title permutations.

"I want to win. That's what I'm here to do this weekend and I'm going to fight for that. The best win is always when it's close because that's when it's most emotional."

Shrugging off criticism of his methodical 'race-by-race' approach, Rosberg says he remains focused on his job in hand

"It makes sense for me to continue with the same approach as I have been doing all season. It's worked very well for me. I'm here where I am because of that, fighting for the world championship in the last race against Lewis, which is awesome.

"It's a fantastic situation to be in and that's why I'm looking forward to the race, it's going to be a good battle out there. For sure I'm going to give him a run for his money and try and get the win.

"It won't be easy of course, because strategy-wise for example with the tyres there's not really a plan B. At the start is always an opportunity, as we know, and that's it."
