F1 Abu Dhabi GP: Keke Rosberg tips Nico to raise game after F1 title win

A 'happy' Nico Rosberg can raise his game further following his 2016 Formula 1 title win, according to his father Keke.

Rosberg clinched his maiden F1 world title with a steely drive in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, snatching the crown from his Mercedes team-mate and defending champion Lewis Hamilton in a tense final round showdown.

Becoming only the second driver to emulate a family member in winning the F1 world title, Nico's father Keke - world champion in 1982 - has spoken of his pride at seeing his son earn his place amongst motorsport's greatest drivers.

Furthermore, Keke believes there is more to come from Nico as well, saying the confidence boost of a title win could spur him on to even greater achievements.

"A happy man performs always better than an unhappy man so I think it is going to raise the game like everybody does. Jenson did it when he won the championship, I did it and it will probably happen. Comes with the game."

Keke was also praiseworthy of Rosberg's resilience in the face of an occasionally bitter foe in Lewis Hamilton.

"It is remarkable and I admire him for his mental strength and commitment. We have to remember the commitment of somebody like Nico, I don't know how the others do, it is 110 per cent and has nothing to do with the way we went about being a Formula 1 driver."

Keke Rosberg won his 1982 title with Williams and remained with the team for 1983, where he proceeded to finish fifth overall.
