Evjen set for Euro Rx supercar debut in Latvia

Norway's Sondre Evjen will race a Volkswagen Polo Supercar in the final round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Riga in Latvia next month (September 14 - 16).

The RX2 International Series front-runner will drive the car that Tord Linnerud raced in Euro RX and World RX events in 2015 and 2016. Linnerud drove the car to third overall in the Euro RX Supercar Championship in 2016. Evjen is currently sixth in the RX2 points after the first four rounds of the year and is third overall in the RallyX Nordic Supercar Lites class. The 20-year-old won the Latvian round of the single-make official support category to the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Latvia in 2016.

"Getting to race in a European Championship Supercar race feels absolutely amazing. Motorsport is more than just a hobby for me, I want to go all the way to the top in rallycross and I'm pushing to develop as a driver all the time. My long-term goal is to compete in the World Championship and now I will race a Supercar in Riga. It's a big step in the right direction for me and an incredible opportunity that I'm so happy to get," said Evjen, who will join Thomas Bryntesson and Ole Froshaug in the JC Raceteknik Euro RX Supercar team in Riga.

"The Polo is a competitive car, which means the results will be down to me and not the car. I will do everything I can to get the best results possible and the goal is to get into the semi-finals. But, overall this is all about gaining experience and to enjoy it," continued Evjen. "We are renting the car for this event, what happens after that we will see. Of course it would be amazing to race in Supercar next season, but that is down to a lot of things, including budget. Right now, I can't wait for Riga."
