Esports WTCR OSCARO is go!
Simracers will get to race in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO online with confirmation that Esports WTCR is go for 2018.
Eurosport Events, RaceRoom and Sector3 Studios are continuing their partnership that began in 2013 and led to the inaugural eSports WTCC online championship in 2017.
With the WTCC becoming the WTCR in 2018 to mark the beginning of an exciting era for world touring car racing, the stakes are being raised for Esports WTCR OSCARO starting with a launch event at the Nürburgring's ring°arena.
Qualifiers will be held onsite during the ADAC 24h-Rennen weekend (10-11 May) where gamers and simracers are invited to push the virtual WTCR cars to the limit, beat the real WTCR drivers and qualify for the races on 12 May, which will be broadcast live online.
A large number of drivers will have the opportunity to compete against racers with similar skills for a share of a €25,000 prize fund with more than 80 drivers in contention for prize money. Spectators can watch the action for free.
Before Nürburgring there's an opportunity to get the first taste of a WTCR car in RaceRoom with the opportunity to drive the first Esports WTCR car, the Audi RS 3 LMS in an exclusive time attack competition. To practice, drivers should visit: http://game.raceroom.com/championships/15. More news on Esports WTCR OSCARO and the launch event will be released soon.
François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the WTCR promoter, said: "Esports is just booming in every sport so I am delighted we have prolonged our agreement with our long-term partner RaceRoom Racing Experience. With seven brands taking part in the WTCR there's a lot of work being done behind the scenes to get all the cars ready. Following the Nürburgring launch event Esports WTCR OSCARO will start in the summer when all cars, drivers and tracks will be available. Then Esports WTCR OSCARO will run almost in parallel with the real WTCR and we're expecting a very exciting championship."
