Eriksson wins nordic title, Pucher triumphs in Austria

Sweden's Kevin Eriksson claimed his second consecutive RallyX Nordic Championship title by winning the final round of the series at Grenland in Norway at the weekend.

Olsbergs MSE World RX driver Eriksson was confirmed as the champion by beating title-rival Lukas Walfridsson at the Intermediate Classification. Starting on the second row of the grid for the final, Eriksson passed Peter Hedstrom in a first corner move to win the event, ahead of Euro RX racers Hedstrom and Alexander Hvaal, who will both join Eriksson on the World RX starting grid this weekend at the Estering in Germany. Hvaal's Grenland result secured him the 2016 Norwegian Rallycross Championship title, and third overall in the RallyX Nordic series.

"I was extremely nervous during the day," said Eriksson. "I missed a gear in practice and we could not change the gearbox before the first qualifying race. But, the team did a really great job and we managed to win two qualifying rounds. It felt extremely good to be able to secure the championship even before the finals, and it was great to make a move around the outside at the first corner to win the final." In the RallyX Nordic Supercar Lites finale, RX Lites Cup runner-up Thomas Bryntesson won the event and the championship title. He claimed the final victory ahead of Thomas Holmen and Simon Olofsson.

Elsewhere in Europe, World RX Team Austria owner and Euro RX racer Max Pucher sealed the Austrian Rallycross Championship title for the second year in a row, and Euro RX competitor Michael de Keersmaecker won the final round of the Belgian Rallycross Championship at Maasmechelen. De Keersmaecker will also race at the World RX event in Germany this weekend.
