Ehrlacher credits team for keeping him in WTCR title contention
Yann Ehrlacher has credited his ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport mechanics for keeping him in the fight for the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
Ehrlacher's Honda Civic Type R TCR was badly damaged in Saturday's multi-car accident, which required his team to work through the night to repair it in time for Second Qualifying on Sunday morning.
The German squad's work was repaid when Ehrlacher made it through to the Qualifying Q3 shootout, while two seventh-place finishes on Sunday keeps the erstwhile championship leader firmly in the title battle in third place, 22 points behind new leader Yvan Muller, Ehrlacher's uncle.
"I cannot even begin to describe how amazing the mechanics are in this team," said 22-year-old Ehrlahcer. "The worked all night without sleep and got my car ready for today's races. It was a fast car too and if I hadn't made a mistake on my Q3 lap, I could have been on the front row.
"Two seventh places could be very important for the championship, because it could easily have been two non-starts [on Sunday]. I'm second in the points and we have a fast car, so there's every reason to stay optimistic for the next event in Slovakia."
