Consecutive win for JD Classics at Goodwood Revival

On 13-15 September 2013 JD Classics entered three cars at the Goodwood Revival, including the ex-Fangio C-type in a bid to defend the Freddie March Memorial Trophy, which the team won last year for Jaguar Heritage Racing.

The sell-out event attracted 148,000 spectators and JD Classics featured in the first race of the weekend, the Freddie March Memorial Trophy. Containing sports racing cars in the spirit of the famous 1952-1955 Goodwood Nine Hour races, today's 90-minute two-driver format is the Revivals only ‘night race'.

In 2012 JD Classics' ex-Fangio C-type won the Freddie March Memorial Trophy in the hands of Alex Buncombe and John Young for Jaguar Heritage Racing, and this combination was chosen once again to take on rival teams in 2013.

Despite greasy conditions John and Alex qualified the C-type in 2nd position. Starting from the front row of the grid John did a fantastic job in the first leg against other C-types and a Cooper Bristol before handing over to Alex Buncombe in deteriorating light and heavy rain.

After the driver changeover, battling with challenging conditions and poor visibility Alex reclaimed the lead from the Ecurie Ecosse C-type and extended the gap by an impressive 26-seconds before the race was red flagged, declaring JD Classics the Freddie March Memorial Trophy winners for the second consecutive year.

Speaking immediately after the race Alex said: "What a race! It was certainly tricky out there but I'm elated that John and I have managed to defend Freddie March Memorial Trophy for JD Classics and Jaguar Heritage Racing."

JD Classics also entered a GT40 into the Whitsun Trophy which qualified 3rd on the grid in the hands of Andy Wallace and Alex Buncombe. Andy made a strong start and a smooth driver changeover with Alex, but a delay in the pit lane of around 30-seconds hampered the team's chance of a podium finish. Nonetheless, Alex still recorded the fastest lap of the race and finished a respectable 4th place.

JD Classics final entry was a Lister Knobbly in the Sussex Trophy. Driven in abysmal conditions by Managing Director Derek Hood, the Lister maintained its midfield qualifying position and finished the race unscathed.

Managing director Derek Hood commented: "It's fantastic for Alex and John to have won the Freddie March Memorial Trophy again, this time in very tricky conditions. Setting fastest lap with the GT40 in the Whitsun Trophy proved our potential, but Andy and Alex did a sterling job to take 4th place despite pit lane delays out of our control."
