Comte expected WTCR podium

Aurélien Comte's maiden podium in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO came as no surprise to the DG Sport Compétition driver.

Comte, in a PEUGEOT 308TCR, produced one of the drives of his live to finish second in Race 1 at WTCR Race of Netherlands from seventh on the grid but was relatively unfazed by his achievement afterwards.

"I'm not surprised because I knew the 308 could be quick here so I was expecting the car to be on the pace," said the Frenchman. "Maybe not as far at the front but we knew if there was a track where the 308 could do something it would be here.

"I'm very happy with the start and I can't believe that starting seventh he was P2 at the end of Turn 1. I was a bit disappointed when the red flag came out and after the restart I was trying to put some pressure on Yann but also keep an eye in the mirror for Rob who was pushing hard. I'm happy for PEUGEOT."

Meanwhile, Comte's team-mate Mato Homola was P18 in the DG team's second PEUGEOT and far from happy: "It's so hard to say something right now. The gap was larger than two seconds between me and Aurélien is huge. We are so close to each other the whole season, usually not more than two seconds, with sometimes me and sometimes him in the front. The team has to go through the whole car and we need to analyse the data together. In the end, I need to get some sleep and start with a clean mind tomorrow. It is another day with qualifying and two more races. Let's fight tomorrow."
