Civic chief hoping for big WTCR presence
The man behind the Honda Civic Type R TCR project hopes several examples of the car will be on the grid when the inaugural FIA World Touring Car Cup begins in Morocco on 7 April.
Mads Fischer, the TCR Project Leader at JAS Motorsport, oversaw the previous Civic Type R TCR's capture of 16 track titles in 2017 and has supervised the development of its replacement, which broke cover last October and made its race debut in the Dubai 24 Hours last weekend.
"After the extraordinary success of the previous Honda Civic Type R TCR in 2017, it's incredibly exciting to be at the dawn of a new era," said Fischer. "The new Civic has undergone 2800 kilometres of testing since the middle of October and we're confident that it will be an extremely effective racing car. The recent announcement of the FIA World Touring Car Cup, for which TCR cars will be the only eligible cars, is extremely exciting news and we hope to see several examples racing there."
