Ceccon heads back to where it began in WTCR
Kevin Ceccon will return to the scene of his debut in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO when he contests WTCR Race of Slovakia next week.
In what was originally intended as a one-off for Ceccon, the former single-seater racer and then team-mate Fabrizio Giovanardi ended up helping Team Mulsanne to its first WTCR / OSCARO points. It was a performance that resulted in the Italian securing a full-time contract to drive the squad’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris from WTCR Race of China-Ningbo onwards.
“Slovakia Ring is where my touring car career started last July,” Italian Ceccon explained. “It was a very difficult weekend for me because it was my first time in a front-wheel-drive car. I was a bit shocked at first but then it turned into a great weekend because we scored some points and we had never done that before.”
WTCR Race of Slovakia 2019 takes place from 10-12 May and Ceccon can’t wait for the event to start.
“I am so excited to go there because it’s a great track,” he said. “But I’m also excited to see how I compare to last year with my performance, to see how much I have improved. It’s a kind of test for myself.
“When I left the Slovakia Ring last year it was not easy because I wasn’t sure what my future was going to be. I was happy because I was pleased with the job I had done but I didn’t know if there would be another opportunity with the team. I think I proved that I could be good for touring cars.”
