Biasion joins Britain supercar celebration
Double world champion Miki Biasion will join the stars and cars spotlighting the WRC's flame-spitting Group B era at next month's dayinsure Wales Rally GB (27 - 30 october).
The 1988 and 1989 title winner will be one of the headline guests at the Cholmondeley Castle special stage, which will highlight the fearsome supercars 30 years after they were culled from the FIA World Rally Championship.
The Italian claimed his maiden WRC victory at Rally Argentina in 1986 in a Lancia Delta S4. Three months later the Group B monsters competed in Europe for the final time at Britain's round of the WRC before being outlawed following a series of accidents.
Fans attending the Cholmondeley stage, which closes the Saturday leg at the season's penultimate round, will enjoy the sight of more than 20 iconic Group B cars either as part of a static display or performing demonstration runs over the same roads that will host the 2016 WRC stars a few hours later.
Armed with a supercharger and a turbocharger to deliver phenomenal power and performance, the Delta S4 was one of the most spectacular cars of the era.
"It was a fantastic period for the sport - the cars were powerful and very popular with the fans. People still talk about us like heroes. It was a maximum adrenaline experience to drive the S4," recalled 58-year-old Biasion.
"It will be a pleasure to come back to Britain in October. I have a lot of old friends there and am really looking forward to meeting them as well as the rally fans who, I know, absolutely love the Group B cars."
