Beijing, Baku, Monaco, Trois-Rivières and finally Macau, WTCR racer Vervisch can’t wait
Frédéric Vervisch has said racing at Macau in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will be a dream come true.
Vervisch, part of the Audi Sport Team Comtoyou line-up in WTCR OSCARO, will be competing on the ultra-demanding Circuito da Guia for the first time from 15-18 November and is relishing the challenge ahead.
"I'm 32 and I've always wanted to race there, now finally this dream is coming true," said the Belgian ace. "I have been racing on a number of street circuits already in the past: Beijing, Baku, Monaco, Trois-Rivières, and of course with FIA WTCR this season in Morocco, Vila Real and Wuhan."
While Vervisch will be a Macau rookie, he's more than aware of how to handle street tracks.
"On any street circuit, it is more important to have previous experience than on a permanent track, quite simply because you can't go to the limits straight away," he said. "Any mistake means your weekend could be over already in a practice session. Street circuits don't forgive anything."
He continued: "Obviously, we've all seen the famous slipstream overtaking manoeuvres, incidents and odd situations of the past, like Laurens Vanthoor flipping his GT3 car, huge pile-ups, but also the fact that using the handbrake in the Melco hairpin can be an option in a touring car!
"Generally speaking, the race will be a lottery [and] particularly demanding on our TCR cars. Sometimes you lock a brake in this type of cars and you don't know why, so make sure to leave a little margin at Macau. There are people on our grid who have raced and won there very often, and they will definitely have a big advantage. I just hope the track with its high-speed sections will suit our Audi RS 3 LMS."
