Bad WTCR luck strikes Coronel in Vila Real
Tom Coronel suffered a weekend of woe when the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO visited Vila Real in Portugal.
A puncture in Second Qualifying on Sunday left him at the back of the grid, before punctures in both Sunday races led to further frustration for the Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda driver.
"It's been a frustrating day," Dutchman Coronel said on Sunday evening. "I had a front puncture in qualifying, so I hit the wall and had to start at the back. Then I got front punctures in both of the races, which made a good result impossible."
The former Vila Real winner continued: "It's a real shame because in Q1 the car was extremely fast. I lost a couple of laps because of minor track-limit violations, but my best lap would have put me in Q2 with a top-six time and that speed was genuine as well."
