Aero boost for Fiesta?
Sébastien Ogier's bid to return to the top of the WRC standings could be boosted by a new aero package on his Fiesta at Neste Rally Finland (26-29 july) - if test results prove favourable.
The current-specification car has taken three WRC wins so far this season in the hands of the Frenchman.
But with title rival and points leader Thierry Neuville having won the last two rounds in Portugal and Italy, M-Sport Ford World Rally Team is keen to achieve a performance boost for the six remaining events.
Team engineers have therefore been busy in recent weeks developing new aero components for the rear of the Fiesta to improve stability and grip. The main focus of their efforts has been on the car's rear wing.
The new components are continuing to be validated this week as part of M-Sport's pre-Finland test. Elfyn Evans drove the Fiesta on Monday and Tuesday (9-10 July), while Ogier took the wheel on Wednesday and Thursday (11-12 July). Teemu Suninen will complete the test on Friday (13 July).
M-Sport remains tight-lipped about the possible introduction of its revised aero package at Rally Finland. WRC.com understands the parts are still being developed and validated, and no decision has been made yet.
