A closer look at Red Bull's 2018 F1 front wing experiment

Red Bull ran a modified front wing during the 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix free practice sessions and at the post-race Formula 1 test.

F1 race-winning designer Willem Toet joins Craig Scarborough to discuss Red Bull's changes to its nose design in this latest clip from weekly Motorsport.tv programme The Flying Lap.

"The fingers of their flap normally stays quite high, so you end up generating quite a big and quite high Y250K vortex, certainly at the start," says Toet.

"With the more curved fingers, the Y250 has to have been lowered, at least initially, and that's going to change which parts of the front tyre wake are most affected by the Y250 vortex."

Toet goes on to explain what the Y250 vortex is, and how this might change the aerodynamic performance of the car.
